The Maples Woodland Wedding: A Romantic Spring Day in Woodland, CA

There are some wedding days that feel like they’re pulled straight out of a dream. Anastasia and Roger’s celebration at The Maples Woodland was exactly that. Set in the heart of nature, this venue provided the perfect backdrop for a storybook celebration filled with soft golden light and organic textures.

Just outside, the natural tree-lined pathway created what felt like a tunnel of trees, wrapping everything in shade and texture. It was one of those hidden gems that made the entire venue feel even more magical and cinematic, like something out of a film.

A Magical Ceremony Under the Trees

Their wedding took place in a time we usually imagine with cool breezes and soft spring sunlight. But this day had a surprise. It was hot. It’s like the middle of summer, kind of hot! The kind of heat that makes you question if spring skipped a step.

But if you were there, you would never think it mattered.

Their ceremony at The Maples Woodland felt deeply personal, surrounded by the people who matter most. Laughter echoed through the trees, a few tears were shared, and every word felt genuine and heartfelt. It was one of those ceremonies where you could feel the connection not just between them, but with everyone present.

A newlywed couple walks hand in hand down the aisle during their outdoor wedding ceremony, surrounded by guests and floral arrangements.

The bridal party brought such an incredible energy to the day, not only standing by Anastasia and Roger’s side, but truly showing up with so much love, support, and excitement. From the laughter to the in-between moments, you could feel how much they meant to them. It was the same with their families, who were just as present and full of joy, making every photo feel genuine and full of connection. These were the people who helped shape their story, and it made those moments even more meaningful to capture.

While the romance was front and center, this crowd knew how to celebrate!

Timeless Portraits and Golden Hour

As the sun began to set, we stepped away for a few quiet moments to capture their sunset photos. The golden light gave them a soft, natural backdrop and beautiful, flattering lighting that made the moment feel calm and effortless. It was one of those pauses in the day where everything slowed down, and you could truly feel the connection between them.

An Intimate Reception at The Maples

As the day moved into the evening, the atmosphere shifted into something more relaxed and intimate. Guests spent the night simply enjoying the evening, gathering in conversation, sharing laughs, and taking in each moment together. While the pace felt calm, the celebration came alive through meaningful moments like the newlyweds’ first dance, heartfelt dances with their parents, the money dance, and the bouquet toss, each bringing bursts of energy, joy, and connection throughout the night.

That is what weddings are really about. Not perfect weather or perfect timelines, but real connection, real emotion, and celebrating a love that is completely your own.

And when the love is real, nothing else matters.

A Dream San Francisco Proposal From the Golden Gate Bridge to the Palace of Fine Arts

There is something undeniably cinematic about San Francisco, and Jake and Jenna’s proposal story felt like it was meant to happen here.

Jake first reached out to me about planning a surprise proposal for Jenna. He mentioned that they live in Phoenix and wanted to make their trip to San Francisco truly unforgettable.

About two weeks after receiving his inquiry, something funny happened. I happened to be in Phoenix photographing a wedding, and I remembered Jake’s message. I decided to reach out and asked if he would like to meet in person so we could talk through his proposal plans.

We ended up meeting at a local coffee shop in Phoenix with my husband and photography partner. Sitting together and talking through ideas made everything start to fall into place. From that moment, we knew exactly how the proposal would unfold once they arrived in San Francisco.

The Proposal at Crissy Field

The big day finally arrived in San Francisco. Since Jake and Jenna are from Arizona, they expected the city to be cold and foggy, so they came prepared for chilly weather.

But San Francisco had other plans.

Instead of fog and wind, the city surprised us with beautiful sunshine and clear skies. It turned out to be a perfect day for a proposal.

Jake brought Jenna to a scenic spot at Crissy Field, with incredible views of the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. As they walked along the waterfront and took in the view, Jake got down on one knee and asked the big question.

Of course, Jenna said yes.

It was such a joyful and emotional moment, and the setting made it feel even more magical.

Engagement Portraits at the Palace of Fine Arts

After the proposal at Crissy Field, we headed over to the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts for more fun portraits celebrating their engagement.

The Palace of Fine Arts is one of the most iconic and busiest locations in San Francisco, and it is always filled with visitors, photographers, and people enjoying the view. But that is where experience makes all the difference.

Over the years, we have photographed countless engagement sessions here, and we have learned exactly where to position couples so the photos feel calm, romantic, and timeless, even when the area is full of activity.

Despite the crowds and the many photographers around, we know the perfect angles and hidden spots that keep the focus exactly where it should be on the couple. Let’s just say it is one of our little secrets that you will discover when you work with us.

Jake and Jenna were able to relax, celebrate their engagement, and enjoy the moment while we captured portraits that felt intimate and beautiful, without showing the busy energy surrounding this famous landmark.

Proposing in the Bay Area

Planning a proposal is one of the most exciting moments in a relationship. If you are thinking about proposing in the San Francisco Bay Area, you are choosing one of the most beautiful places in the world to pop the question.

From breathtaking coastal views to iconic landmarks, the Bay Area offers countless romantic locations that make proposals truly unforgettable.

Choosing the Perfect Proposal Location

One of the most important parts of planning your proposal is choosing a location that feels meaningful to you and your partner. It could be somewhere you visited together before, a scenic destination during your trip, or simply a place with an incredible view.

Some of the most popular proposal locations in the Bay Area include:

Golden Gate Bridge
Crissy Field
Palace of Fine Arts
Lombard Street
Muir Woods National Monument
Napa Valley
Sonoma County

Each location offers a unique atmosphere, whether you want sweeping coastal views, forest scenery, or classic San Francisco architecture.

Tips for Planning the Perfect Proposal

When planning a proposal, remember that the moment should feel authentic and meaningful. Here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind.

Keep it simple.
The most memorable proposals are often the most genuine ones. Focus on the moment and the meaning behind it rather than elaborate setups.

Be yourself.
Speak from the heart. Your partner will remember how the moment felt far more than what was said word-for-word.

Think about timing.
Some locations can get very busy, especially during weekends and summer months. Early mornings and sunset are often the best times for beautiful lighting and fewer crowds.

Have a backup plan.
San Francisco weather can change quickly. Fog, wind, or unexpected crowds can happen, so having a backup location or flexible plan is always helpful.

Capturing the Moment

Many couples choose to hire a photographer to discreetly capture the proposal. Having professional photos allows you to relive the moment and share it with family and friends afterwards.

As Bay Area proposal photographers, we often help couples plan the timing and location so the moment unfolds naturally while every reaction is beautifully documented.

Making the Moment Unforgettable

The most important thing is to relax and enjoy the experience. This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment that marks the beginning of a new chapter together.

Take a deep breath, smile, and ask the question.

Chances are, the answer will be yes.
